本帖最后由 清芸 于 2015-8-1 16:17 编辑

The American Center for Educational Exchange is pleased to announce details of the 2009 Global Undergraduate Exchange Program. This scholarship program is a wonderful chance for undergraduate students to experience life in an American college or university for one academic year or one semester, beginning in August, 2009. While this program is not for everybody, it is a great opportunity for those of you who do qualify. Global Undergraduate Exchange Program (UGRAD) About the Program:
·There are opportunities to study in the United States for one semester or an entire academic year, completely free (including free airfare)!
·All fields of study are eligible.
·The program focuses on students from non-elite schools in China, who may not have previous experience or future opportunities for study abroad. ·Students will be placed in accredited colleges and universities throughout the U.S., but you should not expect to go to Harvard, Yale, Princeton, etc. There are over 2,000 excellent colleges and universities in the United States, most of which you have not heard of before.
Qualification and Requirements:
·This scholarship is open to undergraduate students only, who are currently in their first, second, or third year of undergraduate study.
·You must have at least one semester of study remaining after you return to China. If you are currently a senior in your last year of study, you are not eligible for this scholarship.
·Students should be 24 years old or younger at the time of application.
·You must have an English test score as part of your application.
·You must have a TOEFL score by March 1 - so you must take the TOEFL well in advance of the March 1 deadline.
·You will not earn college credit for this program. You will have to return to China immediately following your study in the U.S., and complete your remaining years of undergraduate study at your home university.
·You are responsible for getting your home institution in China to agree to your participation in the program, and to re-enroll you when you return to China after completing the program.
The Perfect Candidate is an undergraduate student with more than one year left of study, gets good grades, knows English pretty well, is involved in non-academic activities like a sports team or student clubs on campus, helps their community with volunteer projects or tutoring or other activities, perhaps comes from a minority ethnic group, has never traveled outside of China before, but really really really wants to study in the United States for a semester or a full academic year.
If you qualify for this opportunity, you must fill out the application, write an essay of 350 (minimum) - 500 (maximum) words in English, get recommendation letters from 3 references (professors, mentors, bosses, or other supervisors), and supply other documents including university transcripts, TOEFL scores, and passport photos.
The deadline to submit everything to our office is November 10, 2008.
In filling out the forms and essay, please keep in mind:
·The application form and essay must be completed in English. It can be typed or printed, but the writing must be clear and legible. The essay must be typed and attached to the form.
·Recommendation letters must also be in English. If the person writing your recommendation does not speak English, the best thing would be to have the letter professionally translated, with an official translator's stamp or seal. If that is not an option, then you should translate it into English. The recommendation letters should be printed on official letterhead that shows the name of the school or office, and should be signed and sealed, and made to look as official as possible.
·The essay is extremely important to your success. It is your best opportunity to express your personality and individuality, while giving some personal background and explanation as to why this program is a good opportunity for you. The essay should clearly state your academic objectives and why it is important that you study in the USA. It should also make clear what type of program you want to pursue in the USA, how this program relates to your current studies, and how it will help you in your future objectives.
·Regarding field of study: You can request to study within your current major, or if you can try to study something new in the USA. Anything is possible, but you must be able to express your reasons clearly. For example:
oYou are currently a Biology student. You like Biology, but you really have a strong interest in Marine Biology, specifically. In your application and essay, you should explain that your school in China doesn't offer Marine Biology courses and you have never lived near the ocean, so you hope to go to California to study Marine Biology and get both classroom and hands-on experience in this field. Marine Biology is not your current area of study, but you can see that there is a natural progression from your current field to the program in the USA.
oYou are a Literature student, majoring in British Literature. You like British Literature a lot, but you have always had an interest in American Literature. The best place to study American literature is probably the USA, so this program would give you the opportunity to study the literature and experience the culture. Going from British Literature to American Literature is not a very big change, but it makes sense that you would want to pursue that program in the United States.
oYou are currently majoring in International Politics. But, recently your ideas have changed and you really want to study Dance. Good luck. You will have to present a very strong argument and some very good reasons for such a big change. We are not saying that it is impossible, but it will be up to you in your essay to clearly express your thoughts and reasons.
